The frustrations are with snp mps that are to bedded down with the london establishment. But have to be honest was expecting the deflection on to someone else.so wasnt to disappointed.
Why did your mate dodge the question on policing the Scotland England border? In fact all i heard from the guy was arrogant politician nothing speak. Will we police our own border? 5 minutes of waffle later the punter has to listen intently and try and work out between the wriggly lines whether we got a yes or a no out of it?
If the future of Scotland is left to this man or his ilk then we will be asking politely for next to fuck all. He’s picking over the scrap or two we may or may not receive from Westminster. God save us when the current SNP leadership are set with the task of setting up a new country. They’ll be so fuckin keen to mediate between the competing interests in the land we’ll have the same people and the same system as they have in England.
Every politician needs to step up to the mark and play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules. Tom Arthur isn’t stepping up to the feckin mark. The SNP have had years to build consensus within the movement and they have abandoned that in order to join our tiny, arrogant, self serving, middle class in a glass of nice poncey fckin wine. Boak inducing.
Get Cherry, Whitford, Sheppard, O’Hara etc back up the road quick because there are too many like Tom Arthur in the Scots parliament.
Too many like this guy and we are gone all he’s interested in is winning elections. The SNP have been tepid and light on policy achievement for the past 5 years. God almighty. Where;s is the industrial policy? We should have nailed down everything we need policy wise for an Independent Scotland by now and should have been winning over the the former NO voters instead we have had Westminster throwing reasons to vote for Independence at the punters. Its a joke. If I hear this guy talk about ‘taking a view.. again’ I’m going to smash my computer into a million bits.
He’s a fraud. A excuse maker for a leadership that has gone awry. if you can’t let us know your opinions they don’t bullshit us with the ‘I take the view’ bollocks. if we are civil you’ll just continue to sit on your hands and do nothing for us.

Brexit is close. A pandemic/ financial system induced recession or worse is on the way and England is about to steam roller us and we need to be nice about it and not try and upset anyone.
A big spike in cases down? Turn away their tourists? ”Don’t be stupid we don’t pander to narrow nationalism in the SNP”.
A recession followed by a financial crash followed by a depression ” We’ll just beg Westminster in nice polite bollocks speak for more scraps off the table”
If the leadership don’t have a plan then we are in trouble.
Did I hear correctly that Mr Arthur has been involved with Reform Scotland?
Isn’t that the “charity” that is promoting the re-introduction of tuition fees, and supports removal of the Alex Salmond stone at Heriot-Watt? The Chairman is a founding partner of an investment management business.
Mr Arthur would be well advised to check that out and be mindful of just exactly who and what he is having dealings with.
I have no idea if Tom is involved with Reform Scotland or not. I will be disappointed if he is not as he speaks well about, and knows much about, Economics.
I do know though that Reform Scotland are pushing some sensible ideas that we surely need in an Independent Scotland and a slimmed down, and a newly reduced and reformed Westminster can learn from if they decide to.
Roddy I usually enjoy your podcasts and your guests , but I have to say I agree entirely with what GM posted on 27th June @10.57pm , What I heard from Mr Arthur was the vision and opinions of a VICHY government in Scotland with references made to the uk govt rather than the WM scum , even when talking about finances and furlough it was all about the uk holding the purse strings , no challenge of their authority to do so or how damaging it is for Scotland
His responses to your questions regarding Wishart and the other clown John Nicolson blocking SNP and indy supporters and extolling the virtuous bbc indicates the LACK OF PASSION in the SNP for REAL INDEPENDENCE
The sad reality is that Holyrood was set up and remains, despite our preferences that it be otherwise, a branch of Westminster.
It is devolved.
Maneuvering round that legality takes great care and skill.
Tom showed that he has it.
Passion is relatively easy.
Controlled, disciplined, strategic employment and participation in a plan is less so.

Oh dear. I entirely agree with both GM and Robert. I can’t say I enjoyed this interview. This is actually my second comment, I haven’t a clue what happened to the first. In that first comment, I was less scathing than the others, opting instead to welcome the fact that you, Roddie had the balls* to broach both the list vote and the current fawning behaviour of some MPs with regard to the BBC.
*It would’ve been much easier to give your pal an easy ride, but you didn’t – well done.
As others have opined, I felt Tom was either too guarded to shoot from the hip, or just too timid to speak up for fear of ‘upsetting’ folk, or was displaying all the signs of someone slowly becoming comfortable with the cut and thrust of politics as opposed to working towards something else a little more important. It’s happened in the past, or, as Westminster Pete Wishart is currently demonstrating, now. In Tom’s case, the term I’m searching for is ‘waffle’. Tom waffled, a lot, and I felt zero passion from the man. I’m mindful he’s your good friend, Roddie, but he needs to show a bit of fire, display the stomach for the fight, and tell us all that the SNP will gain independence for Scots.
I see Ruth Wishart tweeted in favour of the growing popularity of the list vote (still to read your blog today, 29th) – yet another prominent voice in favour of this. I’m assuming Ruth, after she’s stopped looking after her friend’s dug, won’t exactly be run off her feet with return offers of BBC work; why don’t you get her interview, Roddie? She’s brilliant, articulate and very much one of us. Ask her. She can only say ‘no’. I can’t think of a former television personality who wouldn’t miss the buzz of live radio or television, of having a public platform to air opinion, I’m betting Ruth will be no different.
Part of the reason folk listen to these shows is because, during a time of great heel-dragging and inaction from our SNP hierarchy, folk need to be bolstered and assured, encouraged to continue spreading the word. Your show does this. I mainly feel ‘stoked’ again after listening to you and your guests talking-up Scotland. I’d like to hear Ruth Wishart’s inspiration.
Roddy I agree with Kenny re your balls ( not that i’m familiar with them ) I also agree with his suggestion re inviting Ruth Wishart to be interviewed that may be fun and enlightening , or you could ask the other Wishart but that might not be so entertaining.

Currently reading Stu Campbell’s latest ‘breadcrumbs’ blog, browsing through comments, and arrived at the conclusion that there exists a culture of fear within Holyrood, put a foot wrong, intentionally or otherwise, guilty or innocent, and you’re out the door – ably dragged and bludgeoned by a pack of tipped-off and corrupt unionist media thugs.

Regardless, something’s rank up there and I hate it. Sounds like the whole place is crawling with post-ref unionist maggots, feeding-off the good-guys, nobody knowing who to trust. If they can go after a really big fish then maybe Tom’s deliberation, waffle and reluctance to upset certain Permanent Secs, and others, is justified? Just a thought.

I’m seeing stuff with regularity now, and I think some in Holyrood – and Westminster – are smart while others are clever.
The more I see of Joanna Cherry the more I respect her. It’s my thinking she’s well-up on the cancers that currently existing within the party and I believe she has a team of people on her side who are working to blow the lid on the corruption. She also has balls – in the same sense applied to you, Roddie – and, along with the former First Minister’s revelations, she might just save the nation, so to speak. Bring it on.

It genuinely saddens me that, if support for SNP is affected, dwindles, they have absolutely no one else to look to but themselves, they have become so bloody precious. It genuinely angers me that, during the most obvious and opportune moment in over 300 years, when our enemy was bloodied and wounded, compromised and outflanked, the guardians of our nation called ‘Hold’. England will never make this mistake again, and I detest the thought of Scotland living on its knees because our leaders called ‘Hold’.

By next April both he and the rest of SNP might be saying something different…if we reach next April / May and the IndyRef 2020 has not been won.
