ALEX Salmond today called for a determined campaign of civic action on independence.
The intervention by the former First Minister, leader of The Alba Party, comes ahead of a statement on Tuesday by Nicola Sturgeon about her route map to a new vote in October next year.
In a speech to his party members, Mr Salmond will say: “The new case for independence should be put forward by a convention encompassing all independence groups, including those out-with government. The SNP/Green coalition has become accident prone and the argument for independence is far more important than the temporary popularity of any political party.
Secondly, the SNP should cease referring to a section 30 referendum as the “gold standard.” It isn’t, but rather one of a number of ways to give democratic substance to Scotland’s national right of self-determination. I agreed on one with David Cameron in 2012. That doesn’t mean it has to be repeated 10 years later in exactly the same way.
“Thirdly…Boris Johnson Government is in its death throes and Westminster difficulty is indeed Scotland’s opportunity. However, we must be aware that any gain for Scotland will still have to be extracted like pulling teeth. It will require a determined campaign of civic action, parliamentary intervention and diplomatic initiative to press home Scotland’s Claim of Right.”

And I like it that the authentic voice of Scotland’s aspirations is blowing wind into the sails of the independence flotilla… Just to fill out the sails a bit… As easy as 1-2-3… You cannot go wrong with an independence convention; you cannot go far with a section 30 fetish; and the sky’s the limit with Boris taking the school bus in a drunken joy-ride.
No matter what comes down the line tomorrow, we now have this very positive vision too.

NS, you have had your time, stand aside or stand down. You have done nothing to advance the cause, nothing. I suspect tomorrow you will present some pure fluffery and wispery of the carrot variety and essentially say nothing. If so, go now, you have done the job, go to your reward. How fortunate we are to have a strong leader! What a difference compared with Sturgeon’s slow – perhaps – perhaps not – march cautiously up a slight incline – only to slither back down again. Now excitement will start to build with so many keen, independent determined people leading the way. Also, we know (thanks to Edinburgh University) that 53% of Scots voted YES in 2014, so we’ll be starting with a majority. Can’t wait to get started!!

Someone on Twitter said we should stop talking about Scotland ‘leaving’ the UK. We are merely dissolving a treaty, one that has been around for awhile (unlike the NI protocol which the Oaf is trying to dump)
No offence intended, Marjorie, but you can’t ‘just dissolve’ a treaty as Mr Johnson is finding out. It must be done legally, and, in the case of the Treaty of Union, under international law.

I feel so excited.
How lucky are we Scots to have ALEX back on the Indy case. The treachery that is about to be inflicted on us will be as nothing compared to 2014. But we are ready and battle hardened this time we win big. We owe it to our wanes and our wanes wanes. ❤️
