One of the most annoying tropes used by those in the Anglo-British Labour party, Scottish branch is, ‘a working-class Scot is the same as a working class English person in Bolsover or Burnley’-Wrong! In December at the UK General Election the English working class even in the so-called northern heartlands of Labour switched their allegiances to the Tory party. Seats that had been in Labour hands since our grandparents youth moved over to the dark side. Meanwhile in the working-class areas of Scotland the MPs elected were left leaning SNP. During the election we all noted how British Labour had stolen virtually its entire manifesto from SNP policies. Free University education, Free prescriptions, Bus passes and Free care for the elderly and many more. The English ‘working class’ rejected these policies and instead voted for the Tories and, Brexit, Austerity, Anti immigration, Tax cuts for the richest in society selling off the NHS, and more poverty for the less well off.
Many decades ago we in Scotland rejected such policies. Since 1955 we have denied the Tories at every opportunity. They have not won a Council, European, Westminster or Holyrood election in that time. The seats in Scotland that remain in Tory hands can not in any way be described as Scottish working class heartlands. We are for now in a Union that is in the midst of disintegration. Scotland and England are on very different trajectories. While England wants isolation from the rest of the world Scotland, crave to be internationalist. England wants to live in the past in the belief that in a time before most of us were born days were idyllic and perfect. One can only assume that they mean pre-WWII. The days when there was No Welfare state, No NHS, No Social Housing, No Workers Rights, No Child Protections, No Human Rights Laws. It seems our English neighbours enjoy a bit of self-harm.

We in Scotland see a different future. While England wants Brexit, we wish to remain in the EU. While England wants to halt immigration, we embrace it and revel in the diversity it brings to our society. The English like WMD just as long as they are not housed in England, we Scots reject these vile weapons of mass destruction no matter where they are stored. The Anglo-Brits reject renewables and withdraw investment for green technologies, Scotland is at the forefront of these burgeoning industries and wishes to see them as main pillars of our industrial policy. England wants more nuclear power stations while we Scots want none and more wind and wave power generation. There are now so few things that bind the union together the reality is there are now more things that divide us. As England has moved farther and farther to the right with its politics, Scotland has moved in the opposite direction.
The civic nationalism of Scotland is joyous, inclusive, and non-violent as witnessed this weekend on the streets of Inverness. The English/British Nationalism that we saw on the streets of Glasgow yesterday is exclusive, xenophobic, nasty and violent. The Anglo-Brits and the Vichy Scots are aggressive undemocratic hypocrites.
During the Brexit debates the words of sovereignty and democracy were thrown around like confetti at a wedding. However, when it comes to Scotland these same people, take a polar opposite view. While England/UK called and held a referendum on leaving a union without the permission of Brussels, Scotland they suggest cannot hold a referendum on its sovereignty without the permission of England’s Parliament in London.

Now we hear that the Leader of the House, Rees-Mogg has indicated that England’s Westminster Parliament is to hold another debate on Scotland’s Claim of Right. In July 2018 there was a discussion on this subject at Westminster and there was a unanimous vote in agreeance with this SNP sponsored debate upholding the rights of Scots to choose their own form of governance. Now with a massive majority for the English Tory Party they inexplicably want another debate on this topic. This ‘debate’ is to be held in Westminster Hall tomorrow, and it begs the question why would the English Tories wish to do this now? We all know that Tories and House-Jocks cannot be trusted with Scotland’s best interests, so I fear the worst. I think though, even our Anglo-British imperial masters might have overstretched themselves if they try to gerrymander some hotchpotch fiddling of the Claim of Right.
This week we will officially leave the European Union. The majority of Scots are opposed to this, however, because England wishes this course of action we just have to accept it. Not for the first, nor will it be the last time that this unequal union has overridden the wishes of the Scottish people. It will continue to happen if we remain under the dominance of the English majority.
Our First Minister this week is to outline her plans for holding an independence referendum this year. Already the foreign owned media based in Scotland has deployed their Uncle Jock reporters to condemn any such plebiscite. Words and phrases like ‘illegal referendum’ are already being used in all the usual suspect corrupt media organs. The distortions and lies about the devolved services are being used by the collaborators in a desperate hope of demonising the SNP government. This tactic has failed for decades, so the not so bright Vichy Scots think by just shouting a bit louder it will work this time.
Most, if not all of the attacks made on independence by the British nationalists are financial arguments. These attacks have failed time after time, yet for some reason best known to Unionist SPADS they continue to attempt to frighten the Scots out of independence talking only about £££! The Britnats and their House-Jocks are purely motivated by money. They are so blinded by their own greed and obsession with material goods that they fail to realise the real reasons for the rise of the independence movement. They never will address the core problems of the British Union, therefore it is doomed to collapse, all that is in question now is when, not if the union will end.
We in the YES Movement are motivated by democracy, fairness, equality, ethical foreign and domestic policies. We want to help the poorest in our society, not punish or demonise them. We believe that education and access to healthcare is a right, not a commodity for only, the richest. Nor do we believe these vital services should ever be for profit. We believe that if you have made your home and life in our country, you are a Scot. Where you were born or the colour of your skin is not even a question. Your religion is your own business and not a weapon to be used by the powerful to divide and subdue the people of our nation. We do not see the need for WMD or participating in foreign wars to aid another nation with its foreign policy. We do not think we are better than any other nation or people, nor do we think we are inferior to anyone or any other nation.
The following weeks and months will determine the future of those of us in the British Union today. The end of this union is inevitable. The Anglo-Brits can choose which way to behave on this matter. They are about to embark on a series of obtaining new trade deals. Do they really want to show the world they only pay lip service to democracy and cannot be trusted? The rest of the world do not have the corrupt English based media as their only source of information and news. The news in other countries cannot be manipulated as it is in the British Union. The truth will out and if RUK is seen as someone that cannot be trusted why would any other nation trust their word in trade negotiations? It is in the best interests of all in this union if Westminster recognises the democratic wishes of the Scottish electorate. There is an overwhelming majority in favour of a referendum on Scottish independence. Opposing independence is a position anyone can rightly hold. Denying democracy is the action of despots and colonisers. To the Scots that sit silently or actively back the Anglo Imperialists, shame on you, history will not look upon you favourably.
I am interested to hear the SNP Plan going forward. Unlike others I will keep my thoughts to myself till such times as the First Minister makes her thoughts public. I will say this, the behaviour of the Britnats and the Vichy Scots have managed to harden my views. They should have learnt by now it is easier to pull a piece of string than to try and push it around a room. We Scots will not be pushed around.
Agree to a referendum now and then whatever the outcome let us all agree to accept the wishes of the Scottish electorate. It is the Scottish voters that decide if we have a referendum, and when, and how many, and in what timescale. Politicians in Scotland ,England France, Belguim or any other foreign land have no say in this matter.
Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
Loved this. Frightening times but we will prevail. Come on Scotland.
Great article again.
“The English ‘working class’ rejected these policies and instead voted for the Tories and, Brexit, Austerity, Anti immigration, Tax cuts for the richest in society selling off the NHS, and more poverty for the less well off” really beggars belief, and yet because we are subject to this unequal union we have to go along. If there was ever an argument for ending it now, this is it!
This is a very good piece which helps clarify some of the issues which are raised by the anti-independence lobby.
Very well said and to the point here’s hoping Scotland will prevail
We have been welcoming English people to live and work in Scotland for years they are happy here and love our country. The truth is that they are still Tory’s (not all ) it’s them we have to convince we are better on our own .Live work embrace our culture and our politics.
There is a lot of sense and truth in your comment.
No there is no sense or truth in this pipe dream , it’s wishful thinking but not realistic and will never ever happen English people quite rightly will vote for what is best for England
It’s nice and soft and cuddly to think that they will embrace Scotland’s culture and politics but they won’t
Nationality is not trivial
Yes you are right ( not all ) just ninety percent of them although they are prone to switching to whichever britnat party their tactical voting mentors advise them to vote for.
Good luck convincing English people to reject mother england .
Good luck convincing them to embrace our culture and politics they are not embracing the culture and politics of any other country they occupy ,what tends to happen is little England’s everywhere full English breakfasts .
It’s a wonderful wish that you have but in all honesty it’s a fairytale this idea that if you move to Germany you become a German or if you move to France you become french or if you move to japan you become Japanese etc etc is just nonsense nobody believes this but for some reason many in Scotland think anyone who moves to Scotland from another country all of a sudden becomes Scottish , well meaning thought but it’s just nonsense.
Every country in the world determines eligibility for nationality , absolutely none whatsoever give you their nationality just because you decide to go live there
Alyn Smith is reported in today’s The National to have said, “… from Friday next we will … all need to try and save the UK from itself.” This states the problem with the SNP. It has become a British Party. Independence has become for them an “as well as” thing. They are still trying to save England as Britain from itself. I think it wrong for Scots to try to impose a Scottish decision on the English. They voted to leave the EU; let England leave the EU. Now it’s time for Scotland to save itself.
The Scottish Government must immediately get advice from a constitutional lawyer in answer to the questions, 1. Does the Act of Parliament which claims sovereignty for the Westminster Parliament over the whole of the UK, break the Treaty of Union, and usurpe the sovereignty of the People of Scotland in Scotland? 2. If that is the case has the Westminster Government in actuality dissolved the Union? 3. Will the properly constituted body that represents the People of Scotland declare the Union to be dissolved or resile the Treaty of Union? 4. If Scotland acts and the United Kingdom no longer exists before Friday, may Scotland apply to the EU for successor state status and thus retain membership of the EU? These questions are too urgent to be pussyfooting about a referendum. The confirmatory referendum can be held after independence.
The Eton boys and their masters of the universe cronies (particularly the American branches) will fight tooth and nail against Scotland becoming independent – why? Because that last thing they want is a fully functioning English speaking version of the Scandinavian Social democracies being a roaring success. They fear that like they fear the truth about themselves – that they’re a conspicuously second rate bunch of chancers and spivs who have no talent – just the luck they’ve had to be born into families who own land and have money.
So watch out, Scotland – it’ll be a ferocious battle. And as Scotland has already discovered, the vile British Labour party won’t be any help to you at all, because they’re woven into the establishment – a bunch of bog-seat warming scholarship boys who’ve learned the school song and are hoping for jobs as prefects.
Scotland is wise to this, one way or another, of course. The Labour party took them for granted for years, much as it takes all its base for granted – where can they go otherwise, while Labour conspire with the Tories to keep the two party system alive?
Hence the Labour party, while the membership enjoys a roster of decent and principled people, is riddled with various schemers looking to take control of the party so they can be the ones to play with the levers of power once it’s buggins’ turn and the Tories fall from favour for a while.
Escape while you can, this is your best chance, while the toxic nature of the English establishment is more apparent than it’s been for decades. Go Scotland! In your souls, you’re more like Norway, Sweden and Denmark than you’re like England.
Although most YES activists are aware that the Scots haven’t voted Tory since 1955 nobody ever points out that they didn’t vote Tory BEFORE 1955 either. 1955 was a single aberration in more than a century of the Scottish electorate always choosing the progressive alternative to the Tories: Whigs, Liberals, ILP/Labour, SNP. If we had been free to develop our leftwards centre of gravity in the political sphere (as we did in for example the educational sphere) Scotland would have become a very different country.
We should make more of the long history of our divergent philosophy.
Thank you for this Mary very interesting and informative. If you would like to write more on this topic I would be delighted to post it on here and share with my readers.
